There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable-

BlahBlahBlah: We need to love ourselves before we can love anyone or anything else. Where have you read these words before 

As much as we want to control our own destiny, the humbling truth is that sometimes the only way to learn self-love is by being loved-precisely in the places where we feel most tender. When this happens, we feel freedom, we are granted permission to love in a deeper sense.

There is no amount of positive self-talk that can replicate this experience. Too many times I witness caring people using will power as an excuse to fight through a yoga class. Intimacy and love will not be found here

If our vulnerability is met with struggle or disinterest, feeling pressured into attending practice. Something brilliantly tender shrivels up and retracts within us, we often lament about ever sharing this part of ourselves again. When our authentic self fails to  “work” on a yoga mat (or whatever), we create a false self which lets us feel safe and accepted, although at a significant cost.

Every time we face the choice to share our deeper self, we stand at a precipice. Often, it’s just too scary to take the first step forward

How do we free ourselves from the thrall of shame thrown on us, the ever pressing need to succumb to societal norms? The fear of being our true selves?

Change is one of the most vibrant elements we can use to create a different tomorrow-

When we change or let go of the negative “things” in our life? New, better and deeper connections rarely come rushing through the door

The real dirty truth, our souls become bewildering quiet. Life starts to feel boring, discouraging and frustration seeps into every crevice of our being. It seems as though nothing is happening. However Dear Reader(s), this precious moment in our lives (which often seems to last far too long) is THE essential part during the process of change.

Something is indeed happening, we just can’t see it yet primarily do our impatience Like a fluorescent light bulb which needs a period of dormancy as it gathers the needed energy to shine, deep changes are happening which haven’t yet manifested themselves. In my personal case, where I have ended an abusive relationship with myself (If you take pics of your sore knees or whatever after a race to post? You are in an abusive relationship with yourself), I (we) simply need time to heal.

I often get asked why I seek out so much alone time, I simply answer with a smile: Healing and Centering. Be well this afternoon and please take care!

What you seek is seeking you-

It is fascinating to note that as my sense of self-appreciation slowly increases, the attraction(s) in my life have begun to change.

The delicate conversation of self-appreciation revolves around attributes to which I call “true gifts.” These attributes encompass my personal places of deepest sensitivity, emotions – laid barre so to speak. These are the aspects of my true nature that can be touched most deeply, or hurt most terribly. These parts are as unique as my fingerprints and the physical scars I wear; they are my true “authentic self.”  At times they might feel like true gifts, and at other times like deep flaws (if you have had the pleasure of fracturing an orbital bone? You know of what I speak of

I’d like to share something with you this afternoon: Until we learn to embrace our true gifts? We will be continually attracted to people and “things” that devalue us. Please, think about this today as you pour half your heart into your yoga practice, or anything else for that matter.

As I learned to express and embrace the very qualities which have made me feel vulnerable and different, my attraction(s) slowly began to change. I started to lose my taste for “things” which chipped away at me and this is truly a wonderful experience.

Our true gifts are not easily found It’s when we pause to seek what nourishes and inspires us: Supportive family and friends, yoga outside one morning, or a brisk walk during lunch  … Something to think about.

Espac(I)o

We are not supposed to all be the same, feel the same, think the same, and believe the same. The key to continued expansion of our Universe lies in diversity, not in conformity and coercion. Conventionality is the death of creation-

As kind, passionate human beings, our curious minds, when unclouded and unburdened, can create limitless ideas to change the world. However, to engage in such inspiring thoughts, we must first clear some space between our ears to do so.

Meditation is a powerful, yet simple tool to remove blocked energies in our minds. It requires letting go of that which no longer serves us. But first, we have to identify what those “things” are.

In my case, it was trail running and racing, competing to win. My body and my family suffered greatly over the last three years due to my attention being elsewhere. As many of you know, running can be easy enough to start and enjoy, although to maintain conditioning, to be in the best possible position to win takes a great effort. After many years, I finally let go of running-competing that had meant so much to me, once upon a time, my own personal fairy tale. My weary body had limped across one too many finish lines, leaving a hole in my heart where self-love and compassion could have resided.

To fill the void left by turning away from what I thought I loved, I entertained feelings of remorse, regret and apology, as if I owed those around me something better than what I had to give them through boasting about a podium finish  

Yet the strangest “thing” occurred recently. I shed a single tear of farewell, then set about cleaning up other space(s) in my world that had experienced equal neglect: my beautiful and cool son, my bikes that needed more attention than a glancing stare walking past them in the garage, my $$$ yoga mat rolled up neatly in the living room. Having experienced the delightful levity of a space.

I’m starting to take my dreams seriously, clearing space so that they have room to grow. Be well today, and please take care.
