Take You Higher

Many people don’t realize the connection between music and literature and I’m here to tell them that it does exist-

**The healing arts, for the purpose of a simple, down to earth classification (I’m a simple dude), consist of three critical parts: Energetic Healing, Physical Healing, and Spiritual Healing. Even though the classifications are necessary for a systematic(this blog-o-thing is anything but systematic) investigation, each healing tradition interweaves and interacts with the other three parts. Purpose of this preface: The healing arts are not an isolated act in our lives. Some would go on to say they are the pure interactions between people, the earth and spirit.**

While some of us are still recovering from a recent yoga class, marathon or triathlon. Many more of us are wounded from life, a lost loved one and the Red Wings making the playoffs. These difficult experiences develop our unique preferences and deeply connect us to other beautiful people (all of you reading today) exuding a common struggle, a sense of hope amongst us. One profound and really cool aspect is that we do not need any particular musical or artistic ability to benefit from the healing arts.

Let’s get a little personal for a bit, we’re all adults here …

Our spiritual healing requires harmonizing a few of the aspects of being “human”: Each one of us has been gifted with the ability to experience and create whatever we like. The arts help us to channel our personal exploration through self-expression or delving into one’s spiritual agony with listening and seeing. Many of you may not truly understand how powerful your written word is! Self-expression scratches beneath the surface, revealing the sources of our personal struggles and hardship. It’s through this process of examining who or what situations spark spiritual discomfort. We discover the hindrances of wellness (think about this thought …). The arts provide a vital resource to avoid or manage such triggers in the very near future.

Creating a new masterpiece transforms your inner pain, awkwardness, into something tangible. Something you can physically separate from your mind and sink your teeth into. Everyday hopes and fears can be transcribed to the world … Feelings we shouldn’t be ashamed of and suffocated as we awaken today.

Notes:

Celebrate you, through your creativity today. What better way to start the healing process?!?

A Redoubt of Love

We all want to do something to mitigate the pain of loss or to turn grief into something positive, to find a silver lining in the clouds. But I believe there is real value in just standing there, being still, being sad-

All of us have been deeply affected by the tragic events during the Boston Marathon yesterday. We have been shocked by the scenes of utter violence and horror. Our very sense of security has been shaken to nothingness, left cold and vulnerable this day after Patriot’s Day. We worry, we pray for those dealing with heartache, pain and anguish.

I implore each and every one of you reading today, no matter where you may be in this beautiful world … Make a difference by bringing hope back into our lives.

Listen

Each one of us is afforded the opportunity to comfort, reassure, and console. Please listen and lend an empathic ear to the concerns of others (post from yesterday). However you choose to connect, the offering of emotional support to those who have been affected by this event will surely bring help. They may forget your exact words that eased comfort back into their life … They will remember your presence and compassion.

Feel

We are numb after witnessing the violence through various media outlets. Seek out the many stories of resilience and sacrifice. Be inspired by the courage of those who risked their own lives, ran into the fray to help those suffering. This event happened, thoughts and prayers no matter the meaning numb us to the heartache and suffering.

Solace

There is neither a simple nor graceful explanation of this tragic event. However, to help you bring meaning: Become a part of the healing process. Acknowledge the depth of pain and offer your own random acts of kindness today. Smile, hug, kiss, squeeze others to heal and bring comfort. Your actions today will resonate deeply, bringing true meaning to our collective sense of compassion, love and purpose.

Notes:

I am left in tears as I write to you this morning, left bare, vulnerable. Be well today.

Sunshine: That’s my Jive

My fault, my failure, is not in the passions I have, but in my lack of control of them-

Niyama:  A Simple Dudes Tale

Life unfolds in the present. Gotcha! However, every so often we let the present moment slip away from us, allowing time to float by unobserved. Squandering the precious seconds of our lives away as we worry about the future and ruminate about what’s happened in the not so distant past. We’re always doing “something“, yet we allow little time to practice stillness and calm.

Most of us don’t undertake our thoughts in awareness. Rather, our thoughts control every fabric of our being. Living in the moment (aka mindfulness) is a state of open attention on the present. When you become mindful, you realize that you are not your thoughts; you become an observer of your thoughts from moment to moment without judging them. Mindfulness involves being with your thoughts as they are, neither grasping at them nor pushing them away. Instead of letting your life go by without living it, you awaken to new experiences as they unfold around you.

Notes:

There are many paths to mindfulness and at the center of each, lies a Catch-22: You have to trust that the rewards of mindfulness will come and letting go of what you want is the only way to achieve this.

Do Whutchya Like

Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful-

What is THE WORST training tool we have available to use?  Our eyes …

Our eyes mislead us while our best training tool and the one seldom used  is our Mind.

CultFit This

The images our eyes capture play a large role in how we organize our perceptions.  If you are capable of daydreaming at work?!?  Then you can learn how to visualize and meditate.

Let’s start early this morning for good measure:

· A good way to start is to simply think about your home or apartment.
· Imagine that you are standing outside and looking at your front door.
· Describe your door in detail (aloud).  What color is the door?  What is the shape of the door handle?   How high is the door?  What does it sound like if you knock on it?
· The part of your mind that you are using to describe the door is the part we use for visualization.
· Now, imagine your door in a different color.  First blue, then red, etc.  Use your imagination and pretend if you need to.  The more you can pretend the better your imagination will be.

Like many “things” in our lives, we forget as we age.  Hand a thoughtful little dude a Matchbox car and watch what happens …

The Workout-

There are literally millions of yoga poses, trillions is actually more actuate of a number.  Try this:  Stand on one foot, hand on the hip of the leg firmly planting you to the ground, your other hand picking at your ear vigorously (keep picking until you find something).  Let’s call this pose: CultFita Hasta Padangustasana

True, passionate yoga practice has Nothing to do with the poses.

So on that lovely note, today is a Rest Day.  You are free to obsess over your killer pose … We will be going for a Walk and focusing/visualizing on proper breathing?!? <— Hint – Hint
