Day after day in my blog-o-thing reader, I read stories from passionate men and women who have been neglecting their bodies. They lead the lives of a secret double agent, as they try to hide the pain from themselves and from others close by who love them. They go through heart wrenching injuries, blog about said injuries, all the while inflicting tremendous pain on their children, friends and family. Or they try to make a desperate, tear filled, heartless effort at holding on to the shreds of a life they had before they kept re-injuring themselves.
They tell stories dutifully detailing the pain they have gone through for a quick thrill, a medal and a t-shirt or a furtive moment of being superior to their peers. Oftentimes they lament not remembering making the decisions that tore apart their knee, their back, their life: “It just happened …“.
It’s easy to judge from the outside looking in on this madness. How could someone risk everything in life, for what really?

Notes:
I want to spend the rest of this week talking about three, immensely powerful words: Stillness, Awareness and Comfort. It really has taken two years and 600 posts to come up with just three words. STILLNESS, AWARENESS and COMFORT… Something to think about this evening as you take pictures of your feet, while resting an icepack on your sore knee.
Cooking with CultFit

In cooking you’ve got to have a what-the-hell attitude-
Chili. Every blogger from hither and yon has a signature chili recipe, except us. Here’s the deal: Many of you will change the very underpinning of our White/Green Turkey Chile goodness. You’ll start gathering the ingredients at your local co-op and figure … “Hey, I could add this and take this out and do some other cool stuff with this recipe!”
So on that note, we offer up this recipe to you as a “suggestion” … You are going to do and add whatever you like anyways.
The Ingredient list-
- 2 lbs. Ground Turkey Breast + 1/2 lb. Ground Turkey Thigh (thigh peeps, dark meat – the darker the better!)
- 1 Yellow Onion (Yellow, not red, not white – Yellow!) Chopped fine, like real fine.
- A generous amount of olive oil (if you are going skimp on anything? Don’t skimp on the precious oil)
- 2 green Bell Peppers, 1 Anaheim pepper, 1 Poblano pepper, a few Jalapenos, a handful of Pasillas … (cored and chopped) If it’s green and a pepper/chili? Put them in there! *remove seeds if you’re a chump!
- 1 teaspoon ground coriander
- 2 tablespoons ground cumin (add more if you like)
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano (add less if you like)
- 3 cans tomatillos, drained and rinsed (give these guys a good rinse!)
- 1 (4 ounce) can diced green chiles, drained
- 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
- 3 cans Great Northern beans, drained
* NOTE: We know Texans don’t care for beans in “their” chili. This is the part of the recipe where we take a moment to tell the Texans (reading in their pick up truck) to suck it! Oh, add a bottle of Shiner at this point to add some peculiar Texan flavor to our chili recipe.
- Chopped cilantro, for garnish (do whatever you like with this?)
- Grated fresh Free Range – Pasture Fed – Monterey Jack Cheese (It’s called a garnish, dude)
- Sour Cream, for garnish (this is not optional)
The Sides-
- Beer
Method to the madness-
Put a big blue Le Creuset pot on the stove top, medium heat. Pour in copious amounts of olive oil. When it’s hot, add the turkey and cook, stirring often, until browned. Transfer to a bowl and return pot to the oven. Add some more olive oil, the bell peppers and the onions, cook em’ up until softened and golden brown. Return our delicious turkey to the pot and add coriander, cumin and oregano. Stir well to combine. All the other peppers and stuff go into a food processor – blend them up and add to the mix, oh, don’t forget the broth, reduce heat, kiss your loved ones and simmer, 45 to 50 minutes. Gently stir in beans and cook for 40 minutes more.
Who knows when this chili is done and how many it serves, we don’t know. It does however taste better the next day, so quite being a bum and make it a few days before you want to enjoy it.
Notes:
Chili, enjoy!
World of Trouble

I wanted to write about self-confidence tonight …
Self confidence is the key to happiness in our lifetimes. Not self-confidence in a vain sense (think clichéd Facebook bathroom self portraits), but trusting and loving ourselves as we are. We gain self-confidence as we grow and pass through each stage of life. Having it helps us grow and become better partners, parents, friends, etc. throughout our lives. Trusting ourselves can lead to the fulfillment of dreams.
However when we experience trauma, we can lose our strength in an instant. If that does happen, can we find that lost confidence again? And if so, how?
Regaining confidence is possible but it can be a daunting and slow process. It requires a lot of patience and courage. But the most important aspect of this process is “throwing yourself in the pool.” Facing your fear(s) head on. Taking the risks that you’re most afraid of and hoping for the best. The more that we do every day to chip away at our anxiety, the better we will feel.
Over time, as we practice quieting the little voices in our heads, the ones telling us to succumb to our fears, we become more and more powerful. Even if you’re so lucky as to never experience a huge knock to your self-confidence, exercising your nerve on a daily basis can be extremely beneficial.
Do one thing that challenges you today. Get out of your comfort zone and take the plunge.
Best Regards,
Alyssa

A Second Childhood
Posted: February 7, 2013 Filed under: Random Workout | Tags: blogging, exercise, fitness, friends, happiness, health, hipster, hope, kettlebell, life, living, love, lululemon, marathon, meditation, motivation, natural, paleo, passion, perspective, pilates, Poems, Poetry, running, trail running, walking, whole foods, WOD, yoga 7 Comments… When all my days are ending
And I have no song to sing,
I think that I shall not be too old
To stare at everything;
As I stared once at a nursery door
Or a tall tree and a swing.
Wherein God’s ponderous mercy hangs
On all my sins and me,
Because He does not take away
The terror from the tree
And stones still shine along the road
That are and cannot be.
Men grow too old for love, my love,
Men grow too old for wine,
But I shall not grow too old to see
Unearthly daylight shine,
Changing my chamber’s dust to snow
Till I doubt if it be mine.
Behold, the crowning mercies melt,
The first surprises stay;
And in my dross is dropped a gift
For which I dare not pray:
That a man grow used to grief and joy
But not to night and day.
Men grow too old for love, my love,
Men grow too old for lies;
But I shall not grow too old to see
Enormous night arise,
A cloud that is larger than the world
And a monster made of eyes.
Nor am I worthy to unloose
The latchet of my shoe;
Or shake the dust from off my feet
Or the staff that bears me through
On ground that is too good to last,
Too solid to be true.
Men grow too old to woo, my love,
Men grow too old to wed;
But I shall not grow too old to see
Hung crazily overhead
Incredible rafters when I wake
And I find that I am not dead.
A thrill of thunder in my hair:
Though blackening clouds be plain,
Still I am stung and startled
By the first drop of the rain:
Romance and pride and passion pass
And these are what remain.
Strange crawling carpets of the grass,
Wide windows of the sky;
So in this perilous grace of God
With all my sins go I:
And things grow new though I grow old,
Though I grow old and die.

Nobody else can-
Often times in moments of stress, anxiety, injury, recovery and other negative mind states that we experience daily, it can be extremely hard to focus on positive personal development, moving forward in life. The thought of becoming a fire-breathing, trail destroying feen (or fiend) can seem far off. A goal so far out of reach given life’s everyday problems.
When was the last time you wondered like a kid? Not the crap we as adults wonder about: Fancy cars, a hot boyfriend or wife, huge house, money, run times … Are we forgetting anything? Today we challenge you to Wonder about creating a sense of perfection in whatever you choose to do. Just Wonder, nothing more. Creating daily experiences of Wonder can lead us to a sense of emotional and spiritual transcendence.
We just lost about 95% of you with the garbage above: Before you set out on your journey today, Wonder. Create an image of yourself, blanketed in love and happiness.
The Workout-
26 bones, 2 sesamoid bones, 33 joints, 19 muscles and 107 ligaments. What in the world are we talking about?!?
You can learn so much about your body and how to move properly by politely taking your shoes/socks off and going for a Walk.
Notes:
We know most of our readers stop on over daily, stay 43 seconds, click “like” and carry on with their merry lives. If you really want to change? We can help you see through the noise, pain and misery of life. How you may be asking? By learning on how to see, well … “YOU”.
