Flypaper

My God, a moment of bliss. Why, isn’t that enough for a whole lifetime?-

What if we told you that finishing a marathon, cycling a century, putting up max numbers in the gym, advanced yoga poses, holding a plank for ten minutes … Really don’t matter much?

The ritual does, the preparation, all the hard work, the failure before the activity. Slow down this morning and explore this profound idea with us.

CultFit Reflection

All of the above activities (and more) have a few things in common.

The entire family, including your friends can participate in them. Walking, running, cycling and especially yoga. You don’t have to be “talented” or “skilled”  to have fun with your family and friends. There’s no one to impress

By slowing down to savor the ritual, you are afforded the time to socialize and enjoy yourselves. Let’s use cycling as an example:  You can tease the dudes in your group about their freshly shaven legs and their choice of skin-tight lycra. When you run out of things to share, you can ease into the saddle and enjoy the scenery rolling by.

Often times when we plan a big, wonderful and memorable “LIFE” changing event: Our very first marathon, first time showing up for yoga class, the sleepless night before your first 5k  (look through your blog roll today). We forget about where our journey started. The thing is, our lives are made of so many touching small memories, this is our foundation in life.

The Workout-

A light and flowing Warm Up: Tumbling, Rolling and Jump Rope.

Notes:

Too many times we only focus on the end result and not where our journey began … Bike ride to the park, a few drinks with friends after a grueling trail run, tying your shoes properly in the morning.  The simple things in life truly are heaven.

Thoughts

A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you-

Undoubtedly you have noticed some changes here over the past fortnight. Since day one we have been changing, this applies to your cute life story as well. Indeed many “things” in life change and if you could allow us a few moments of your precious time, we would like to share some questions we received recently via email. Each one hints at change and rather than writing a painfully, bloviated post?  Prolixity is not something you will find here …

*We are paraphrasing the emails for your reading pleasure.

Tom – From Seattle

… Great site! Could you tell me more about your early posts? You guys seem to have quite a distaste towards CrossFit, the purveying atmosphere around CrossFit and those who choose to engage in extreme fitness programs?

Tom, our story here is one of injury, pain and suffering. Almost all of our off-line members (many of you as well) have suffered life altering injuries participating in events they loved and CrossFit just so happens to one of them. The early posts were raw with emotion, hate and vitriol … Then something changed. The problem was not the event, sport or routine (CrossFit). It was us. Hate is a powerful emotion that has evaporated over time and the more closely you analyze the details relating to the injuries, trying to find causation … You realize that you yourself are the problem.

Trish – From Auckland

… I’m curious as to why you guys switched to a Creative Commons License?

Trish, from post number one CultFit has been uncopyrighted. In essence this means every post has been released in the public domain, and the copyright on these posts as well.

Humble Me

Not what we have but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance-

What in the world does the terrible little word, epiphenomenon have to do with fitness, yoga pants, health and our spiritual well-being? Depends on who you ask, and seeing that you found epiphenomenon here, let us explain a little bit more.

Our conscious mind is but an epiphenomenon of the physical brain (last time we checked), and with timely, appropriate and stimulating mental exercises (reading this blog is not one of them) the brain can be enhanced, empowered and enlightened …

CultFit Beach

Imagine if you will, that we are sitting peacefully in a lovely garden (maybe The Garden of Epicurus?) enjoying some vino, a baguette and a fine section of Brie from the local stinky cheese monger.  Friends, enjoying each others company and happiness.  We could change the setting, sipping VitaCoCo after a group run.  Discussing class as we wipe the sweat from our mats.  In each of these events, we are filled with utter happiness. Allow the struggles of your day to melt away … Let happiness be your primary reason to do anything you like.  The smile on your face?  How did it get there in the first place?!?

Vivrant Things

Beauty surrounds us …

An eye is meant to see things.
The soul is here for its own joy.

A head has one use: For loving a true love.
Feet: To chase after.

Love is for vanishing into the sky. The mind,
for learning what men have done and tried to do.

Mysteries are not to be solved: The eye goes blind
when it only wants to see why.

A lover is always accused of something.
But when he finds his love, whatever was lost
in the looking comes back completely changed

The Workout-

Rest Day … Some light reading before lunch and a touch of yoga in the afternoon to ease the Low Back Pain.

Epiphenomena, nifty word although why are you reading it here, like right now?!?  Take care today and be well.

These Worries

We are so unwise that we wander about in times that do not belong to us, and do not think of the only one that does; so vain that we dream of times that are not and blindly flee the only one that is…Thus we never actually live, but hope to live-

Continued from yesterdays little chat

Part Two: Fail Better

We try our best to ignore the excess baggage we accumulate, but every so often (maybe right now) it catches us off-guard, sneaking up on us when we’re not looking, and we find ourselves staring in surprised horror at the looming emotional darkness inside us.

CultFit No Harm

At such times, many of us bury the baggage again as quickly as possible, we try to forget that it ever happened in the first place. Our grief, however, doesn’t disappear just because we ignore it. It sits comfortably inside our unconscious minds, continuing to silently accumulate as we marinate in the sauce of life.

As the days and years go by, the grief we store, builds up steadily. Unlike a nice series of Farmers Walks, our accumulated grief weighs us down and inhibits us, in many ways, too devious for us to realize. The weight of this inner grief leaves firm, aggressive footprints on our lives.

The more grief we hold inside, the more grief we hold back … The more we become cut off from our own authentic emotions, feelings, our true selves. It’s at this moment we lose the gentle feeling of being alive.

The Workout-

To illustrate our message today (it’s extremely rare for us to do this), proceed with the following:

HEAVY- Farmers Walk Medley (HEAVY means picking up and carrying 100% of your body weight?!?)

Heart Beat Walk, Stork Walk, Rack Position Walk, Ardha Uttanasana Walk (Ask), Single Arm Walk (50%), Piston Press Walk (50%)

Notes:

There is only one way to make it through this day (workout), letting go, gently.  Be well.
