The Problem of Describing Trees

…
The aspen glitters in the wind
And that delights us.
The leaf flutters, turning,
Because that motion in the heat of August
Protects its cells from drying out. Likewise the leaf
Of the cottonwood.
The gene pool threw up a wobbly stem
And the tree danced. No.
The tree capitalized.
No. There are limits to saying,
In language, what the tree did.
It is good sometimes for poetry to disenchant us.
Dance with me, dancer. Oh, I will.
Mountains, sky,
The aspen doing something in the wind.

Shrouded in our arrogance, we often believe time is never-ending. When in fact, the end of time, or at least this time, this moment as we are experiencing it … Is the one thing in our lives of which we can be absolutely certain of. If I may ask you this morning, why then, do we insist on spending these precious moments consumed with how many followers we have on WordPress, or perusing the trending topics on Reddit, rather than being fully engaged in this amazing moment in our lives?
…
This morning I woke up earlier than I normally do. I found myself paying more attention to “something” else. Rather than being fully engaged in the fleeting moments lying before me … Moments that, for their own reasons, are even more precious than most … I had my face buried in the screen on my iThingy, lighting up a still dark room. A none too subtle reflection of my enamored face switching between the weather app and the fantasy baseball app, reminded me of unwavering attention to my virtual world, and my increasingly wavering attention to my true self. This moment prompted me to pause, set down my gadget, thinking about just how much distraction we volunteer for in our daily lives, and how much these distractions impact what we have come to consider meaningful in our lives (my fantasy team stinks this season).
Daily Meditation:
Figuring out and deciding what to fill each moment during the day with, is truly, the most challenge part living a life, in the moment.
Cassilda’s Song

Along the shore the cloud waves break,
The twin suns sink behind the lake,
The shadows lengthen
In Carcosa
Strange is the night where black stars rise,
And strange moons circle through the skies
But stranger still is
Lost Carcosa
Songs that the Hyades shall sing,
Where flap the tatters of the King,
Must die unheard in
Dim Carcosa
Song of my soul, my voice is dead,
Die thou, unsung, as tears unshed
Shall dry and die in
Lost Carcosa

Life is Better

You belong here, Right now.
We all want to change in major ways. We want to be as thin as a sibling, a co-worker. As beautiful as the latest celebrities and as creative as the producers who make their inspiring films. We want to blaze trails as Kathrine Switzer once did and be still as Buddha.
Ambition in life is beautiful although it does have a Dark Side … All of us harbor the feelings of wanting to be like “somebody“. No outside goal, however noble, can ever make us feel complete in life. I want you to know that today, you are Somebody.
A small “thing” can and will go a long way in your adventurers this weekend. It doesn’t take an ambitious, grandiose goal to create a ripple effect in the stream of Life. Take your socks off and feel free to simply dip your big toe in. Everything is interconnected in life, be brave enough today to take the first small step. This may be ten minutes of yoga this morning or even going for a walk this evening. Immerse yourself in the wonderful effect of simple actions. Ten minutes too long? Maybe we can start by being in stillness, connected to our breath for one minute each and every morning?
Notes:
Today, you are creating a ripple effect in your life, initiating change not only in yourself, but in the stream of life we all swim in. Be well this weekend.

Undoubtedly you have noticed some changes here over the past fortnight. Since day one we have been changing, this applies to your cute life story as well. Indeed many “things” in life change and if you could allow us a few moments of your precious time, we would like to share some questions we received recently via email. Each one hints at change and rather than writing a painfully, bloviated post? Prolixity is not something you will find here …
*We are paraphrasing the emails for your reading pleasure.
Tom – From Seattle
… Great site! Could you tell me more about your early posts? You guys seem to have quite a distaste towards CrossFit, the purveying atmosphere around CrossFit and those who choose to engage in extreme fitness programs?
Tom, our story here is one of injury, pain and suffering. Almost all of our off-line members (many of you as well) have suffered life altering injuries participating in events they loved and CrossFit just so happens to one of them. The early posts were raw with emotion, hate and vitriol … Then something changed. The problem was not the event, sport or routine (CrossFit). It was us. Hate is a powerful emotion that has evaporated over time and the more closely you analyze the details relating to the injuries, trying to find causation … You realize that you yourself are the problem.
Trish – From Auckland
… I’m curious as to why you guys switched to a Creative Commons License?
Trish, from post number one CultFit has been uncopyrighted. In essence this means every post has been released in the public domain, and the copyright on these posts as well.

What you see here is yours, to do as you please. Our mindset of Seva is to give and not to hold, to let go of ownership and free ourselves of the stress and pain of trying to protect ownership (writing a book – copyrights).
