*Taking the time to actually read this post today may increase your chances of having a great day? Just saying peeps.
When you show up to an event, a race, heck even a bridal shower? Are you too busy judging whether you are good enough to be there in the first place?
When we do this to ourselves, we miss out on the magic of being present for an amazing experience. No sh!t Sherlock! “We all want to do well!“ Many more of us want to be the best competing on any given day, which is totally cool in our book. But to refuse to participate because you’re not quite top-tier is sad.
How loud do we need to scream in panic before our message starts to settle in? We are heading down a very dark road peeps. Where extreme levels of performance have become the guard rails and running on these roads is dangerous to all of us.
This is our challenge to you this weekend:
Remember going outside just to play?!? When was the last time you went to a park and joined in on an impromptu game of football (proper football, not the ‘Merican crap) with some friends? Have you ever stopped at a trail head and asked someone if they care to join you for a bit (the offer of a cold beer or coffee increase your chances)? Play, peeps … Plain and simple.
Each and every one of us is deprived of play in our lives, a crying shame to say the least. For many of us; the simple experience of what play should be has become work. We are way over organized in our daily lives : Gotta schedule this task … I just have to check in on Foursquare and tell this business they suck on Yelp!
Quick being cruel to yourself, PROMISE?!?
The Plan-
Come play with us this SUNDAY. Not like that perv!?!
The Workout-
A dynamic sweat inducing Warm Up of your choosing. Followed by:
20 Broad Jumps
20 Perfect Pull Ups
20 Hard Style KB Swings
20 Walking Lunges (each leg)
20 Perfect Push Ups
20 KB Piston Push Press (heavy)
20 Romanian Dead Lifts (heavy)
20 Goblet Squats (heavy)
20 Meter Sprint (Out and Back)
20 Minutes focusing on the movement that you feel you need to work on the most!!!
**Caution!!! Normally when random peeps stop by and see a program like this they instantly assume balls to the wall, hard-core, ELITE, gotta kill myself before the weekend. Right? Get your head straight right now … Breathing and Hips! Before you even start say: Breathing and HIPS!!! Out loud.**
Notes:
Pinky swear? Melissa from Sweet Wholesome Health will be back on Monday!!! Have a great weekend and ENJOY!!!

Last week we posted a list of links about the perils facing runners when they lace ’em up and head out for a brisk run This morning while sipping on some freshly brewed orange tea we decided to put together a list of perils facing cyclist. Few things in life are worse than getting hit by a car. Typically driven by a yoga mom experiencing difficulties navigating to the studio with her new iPhone 5. Unlike runners who are advised to run against traffic, cyclist or at least the law-abiding ones should follow the rules of the road. Which present a fresh set of challenges to our two-wheeled friends to say the least. So without further ado … Allow us to suck the joy out of your lovely Thursday morning.

Rest Day … The temperature outdoors begs us to go for a Run yet our bodies scream for a morning filled with Yoga and Meditation. Not in a crowded Yoga Studio …Maybe a trip to the park would do the trick?!?

If you are a cyclist and see this image in front of you while stopped at a red light? Consider yourself lucky … ENJOY!!!
Taking the Time To …

The person who is a master in the art of living
makes little
distinction between their work and their play,
their labor and their leisure, their mind and their body,
their education and their recreation,
their love and their religion.
They hardly know which is which.
They simply pursue their version of excellence and grace in whatever they do,
leaving others to decide whether they are working
or playing.
To them, they are always doing both.
The Plan-
The Workout-
A big thanks to all of you who went for a nice relaxing Walk with us yesterday.
Now its time to do some honest Work. Here’s the deal peeps and if this message conveys a hint of sarcasm and old man cantankerous-ness (new word we just created)? Deal with it, the truth hurts. Not once in your life have you done a proper Tabata sequence, never! Unless you can chime in with your current VO2 max and what a working 90-95% VO2 max is for you?!? All you are doing is a 40/20 second interval … Might as well call it 41/19 intervals for what its worth.
“What’s the deal dude(s)?“
You say tabata yet you have no idea what the Fick Equation is? You do tabata’s yet … What the heck is the Uth, Sørensen, Overgaard, Pedersen estimation? Who cares really?!?
You’re cheating yourself, plain and simple. So instead of bastardizing poor Dr. Tabats’s brilliant research give this one a go:
10 Heavy Kettelbell Front Squats (Elbows WILL not touch your body!!!)
400 Meter Sprint (Sprint, means SPRINT! Gasping, fighting for air when you return to your KB’s)
Four times through!!! Sprint, Sprint, Heavy, Work, Sweat, Fight … These suck to the tenth degree. Yet, overall you will be better for doing some honest, hard work.
**These are called Litinov Sprints … Be empowered to go forth and bastardize these as well**
Notes:
Quick show of hands: How many of us reading are trapped by the fear of being criticized by others?
We fear being Ridiculed …
We fear being judged …
Criticism hurts, deeply. But a life unloved hurts more. You’re amongst friends here … ENJOY!!!

Its always a pleasure to have Melissa from Sweet Wholesome Health over for a visit. Awhile back we were asked by like 400 of you for us to wrangle some delicious quiona recipes from Melissa? We hope you enjoy them as much as we have!
Quinoa Salad
This is one of the BEST summer salads because it is so versatile and can be made to suit any taste preference! It can be served cold (my favorite), warm or hot! Quinoa (actually a seed rather than a grain) is considered a “super-food” because it contains essential amino acids and good quantities of calcium, phosphorus and iron! It is also very mild in flavor, super easy to cook and much faster to cook than a traditional grain. It really is one of the best foods out there so go start experimenting and don’t be afraid to think outside the box:)
Ingredients Needed:
- 1 cup quinoa
- 1 and 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Olive oil
- Lemon juice
- Pepper (to taste)
Optional Ingredients:
- Scallions
- Radishes
- Pepper
- Onion
- Carrot
- Mint
- Parsley
- Cilantro
- Goat cheese
- Fruits
- Nuts
- Any veggie you like to eat uncooked:)
Make sure to wash, rinse and drain the quinoa several times. It has a protective coating that will make the water cloudy and if left on it can make it harder to digest. You know your quinoa is clean when your water stays clear after swishing your hand around in it. Then place the quinoa in a small or medium pot, add the water and salt, bring to a boil, lower the heat and simmer with the lid on until all water is absorbed (15-20 min). DO NOT STIR THE QUINOA WHILE IT IS COOKING! Quinoa is very smart. It has its own system of creating ventilation holes on its own. If you stir, you will cause it to cook unevenly. To check for done-ness you can slowly tilt the pot and if water starts to seep out it isn’t done.
When all the water is absorbed remove the lid, turn the heat off and let the quinoa rest for 5-10 min. Then you can fluff with a fork. This is the base for making most quinoa recipes. To make my favorite version continue reading.
While the quinoa is cooking wash and cut up all the veggies you would like to use. For example I would use 2 scallions, 4 radishes, 1 pepper, 1 medium carrot, parsley and goat cheese. Toss them all together in a large bowl and when the quinoa has cooled a bit throw that in as well. Add as little or as much extra virgin olive oil and lemon juice you would like (usually equal parts is good but you can keep taste testing to find what works for you), then salt and pepper to taste.
You can serve immediately and warm or put it in the fridge for a cold salad. It will keep up to 5 days in the fridge! ENJOY 🙂
Other ways to use Quinoa!
You can use it in a burrito instead of rice, mix it with ground beef and make stuffed peppers, use it as a base for any sauce you can think of or eat it cold with some fruit and yogurt for an extra boost at breakfast! What are some of your wild and crazy quinoa ideas?
The Plan-
The Workout-
Warm Up using our signature Happy Hips Warm Up or a Light Flowing Yoga Series, Followed By:
*Roll through this as many times as you like. If you have any bands? Use them to pattern loading these movements.
Notes:
Its been a brilliant week peeps and thank you for your continued support! Seriously, where else can you get tasty, fresh Quinoa recipes? Fall in love again with the dashing, brilliant man Nikola Tesla and learn all the words to Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “Baby Got Back“?!? Just go ahead and say it: “Right here at CultFit baby! That’s where!!!“. CultFit has always leaned towards your spiritual health and well-being. Talking about running, lifting, balancing of stuff , doing burpees and anything else you can think is quite nauseating and painful. We sincerely care about our readers well-being, well maybe not Uncle Mo. He has a strong penchant for reading about your painful injuries and sob stories. Anyways, if you guys are in the area and want to meet up with the members of CultFit? You can catch us at the Glow Run tomorrow night as well as the Corporate Cycling Challenge Sunday morning (the beer will still be cold at 7am …). No matter what? Have a great weekend and ENJOY!!!

Today’s sign of the Apocalypse: NYC’s most extreme workout
Each and every one of you taking the precious time to read this morning have a unique talent of some sort or another. If you feel the need to decree to the blog-o-sphere what that talent may be? Please leave a comment at the end today. YogaMom/Extreme Fitness Peep? Is this your talent:
Give us a moment to center ourselves here and…Hmm, Hmm Ok…How about entertaining this thought for a second: Dedicate yourself to right now, this very moment! Painfully forget about whether or not you have “found your talent”…How about finding our lives!?!
Sadly in today’s culture, it is so very easy to think that being talented, popular, the mayor of your pilates studio on Four Square or 400 friends on Facebook is the ultimate end goal. From the moment we awake in the morning we are conditioned to believe that our achievements are what makes us interesting, influential, and special.
You know what is important in your life? What truly matters on a deep, heart-felt personal level…is up to each of us!!!
The Plan-
The Workout-
Cleverly pulled from our “Spring Medley” series…
There are Warm Ups and then there are Warm the Joints Up…Two entirely different sexy beasts!
Today we will perform both…Warm Up into a nice lather doing something you enjoy and then Warm Up the Joints:
5-4-3-2-1 Hammer Curls to a One Arm Perfect Press (Feet together, toes actively grabbing the earth beneath you, eyes look through the press!!!) followed by:
10 Perfect Push Ups
Quick question peeps? When you walk are you not performing a plank? And when you perform a One Arm Press? Hmm…Why is it then when you do a plank it looks like hell? Do you walk funny…So on that note how about a nice Plank Medley?
Focus more on form than time today and everyday for that matter…All Planks begin with a Hinge Walk Out!!!
High Plank, Low Plank (chin barely touching floor), Side Planks w/press (look through the weight), Fore Arm Plank…Stand up and with the heavy kettle bells (or any other heavy object – KIDS!!!) you neatly placed nearby earlier: Rack Hold Farmers Walk 40m Out and Back.
How many times through is up to you! 10+ would be something to brag about via a tweet…
Notes:
Patience, Form, Flow and Grace today dear reader. Have fun and ENJOY!!!
