Promise

Promise me you’ll always remember: You’re braver than you believe, and stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think-

*Taking the time to actually read this post today may increase your chances of having a great day?  Just saying peeps.

There are only a few athletes here at CultFit.  Paid to play a sport or were ever fortunate enough to have finished in the money.  The rest of us have never been a top athlete in any given discipline.  That’s not to say we have not taken immeasurable joy and made lasting memories from merely showing up and having fun on a Saturday morning.

When you show up to an event, a race, heck even a bridal shower?  Are you too busy judging whether you are good enough to be there in the first place?

When we do this to ourselves, we miss out on the magic of being present for an amazing experience.  No sh!t Sherlock!  We all want to do well!  Many more of us want to be the best competing on any given day, which is totally cool in our book.  But to refuse to participate because you’re not quite top-tier is sad.

How loud do we need to scream in panic before our message starts to settle in?  We are heading down a very dark road peeps.  Where extreme levels of performance have become the guard rails and running on these roads is dangerous to all of us.

This is our challenge to you this weekend:

Remember going outside just to play?!? When was the last time you went  to a park and joined in on an impromptu game of football (proper football, not the ‘Merican crap) with some friends?  Have you ever stopped at a trail head and asked someone if they care to join you for a bit (the offer of a cold beer or coffee increase your chances)?  Play, peeps … Plain and simple.

Each and every one of us is deprived of play in our lives, a crying shame to say the least.  For many of us; the simple experience of what play should be has become work.  We are way over organized in our daily lives :  Gotta  schedule this task … I just have to check in on Foursquare and tell this business they suck on Yelp!

Quick being cruel to yourself, PROMISE?!?

The Plan-

Come play with us this SUNDAY.  Not like that perv!?!

The Workout-

A dynamic sweat inducing Warm Up of your choosing.  Followed by:

20 Broad Jumps
20 Perfect Pull Ups
20 Hard Style KB Swings
20 Walking Lunges (each leg)
20 Perfect Push Ups
20 KB Piston Push Press (heavy)
20 Romanian Dead Lifts (heavy)
20 Goblet Squats (heavy)
20 Meter Sprint (Out and Back)
20 Minutes focusing on the movement that you feel you need to work on the most!!!

**Caution!!!  Normally when random peeps stop by and see a program like this they instantly assume balls to the wall, hard-core, ELITE, gotta kill myself before the weekend.  Right?  Get your head straight right now … Breathing and Hips!  Before you even start say:  Breathing and HIPS!!!  Out loud.**

Notes:

Pinky swear?  Melissa from Sweet Wholesome Health will be back on Monday!!!  Have a great weekend and ENJOY!!!

Love this post! It takes a brave person to say “I’m going to do it anyway.” Thanks for the reminder!

Thank you! It takes a lot of courage to sign up and show up for your first 5k or big event … But once you do there is so much fun to be had. Hope you have a great weekend, take care!

This was a great post! I remember I signed up for a 5k years ago and when I got there I was so overwhelmed that I shouldnt be there, I wasnt ready to run, I wasnt good enough, that I left. Now, I know that the hardest part can be just showing up and that there are always, ALWAYS multiple levels, no one is judging you, they’re focused on their run/race, whatever it may be. Be proud of yourself in all things, you are worthy!!! Thanks!

    Thanks. I needed that.

This is my fave quote from A. A. Milne of Winnie the Pooh fame. Totally reading some of his books this weekend. I’m glad you enjoyed it and thank you stopping over. 🙂

I am totally chilling out right now with Anne Mac on BBC1 … Can’t wait for the weekend! There are only a few spots to climb in eastern Nebraska and this spot is pretty cool, straight up is the only way up! Next time you are lost in the Heartland you just have to stop over. 😉

  10. Amanda says:

I definitely needed this post today. Thank you!

This is excellent. You are always so encouraging. Sometimes I have to admit I have the opposite problem. Instead of being insecure, I am an over-achiever, and I miss out on opportunities to “have fun” and meet new people because they are intimidated by my intensity. Maybe I’m just hanging out in the wrong spots…!! Back to the playground for me 🙂

  12. The right dog is the ultimate cure for “too busy” and “play failure”. My dog will not come greet me at the door until he’s found a toy to bring me – which he has trained me to throw immediately. Usually by the second throw, he looks like he’s having such fun that I’m smiling, happy, and getting into the play right along with him. Greatest cure for a crappy day at the office ever made.

    • CultFit says:

Dogs rock, plain and simple. Never have I come home, even after the absolute worst day did I not find our pooch waiting to play at the door.
Be sure to have a great weekend with your dog!, family and friends!!

  13. What a great message to start my weekend with! 🙂

  14. Ally Flowers says:

Great post, brilliant message (love the way it’s helpfully conveyed by dogs along the way)!

I’ll be taking my dog and a friend for a walk in the woods tomorrow and we’re going to play fetch 🙂

Love the blog, such a great concept. I’ll certainly keep on reading and telling others about it!

  15. Your post hit me smack in my core….always be present, at work, at play, in love….be frickin’ present and in the moment. Have a great weekend.

    • CultFit says:

Yup, I have been beating down this message for awhile now haven’t I? 😉 I was totally present last week when my lovely wife broke out the slow cooker and made some yummy chilli!!! Actually it was torture … 6+ hours waiting for it to finish! The smells, the countless taste tests. Torture!
I hope you and your family have a great weekend as well, take care!

This is a fantastically uplifting blog post and I think it applies to so many things in life. I can’t promise that this weekend I will be able to do this list you suggested because my weekend actually doesn’t start until Wednesday…but I will do it 🙂

    • CultFit says:

Thank you so much! I normally write towards runners/weekend warriors although … Can you keep a secret?!? My broad message is really aimed towards life in general. Runners get ticked off the easiest so I like to poke them in the ribs any chance I can get. 😉
What kind of schedule are you on? I used to work an offset shift and had Thurs and Fri off.

      • nicholestark says:

Haha well I like the life message and on top of it running is something I could use a little (ok a lot) more of. My schedule is leave home at 6am, work 7a to 7p, home at 8 on Sat, Sun, Mon, Tue every week. Wed same thing only 11-5, thursday off, and Friday school all day. Not a enough days in my week.
