Starry Eyed

Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple-

Smiling: Evidence

“There must be a secret, hidden cleverly in today’s message?”

Maybe, the secret is accepting that our very own humane behavior towards others … Are their own reward(s), rather than an investment for an expected future return. We implore you to practice today, replacing the following thought:

I’ll be nice to you so you’ll do something for me with:

I’ll be nice to you because I feel passionately, that it’s the right thing to do and will make it more likely that you will be nice to someone else, who then may be nice to another person today.

That’s it folks, pithy enough for you!?!

The Workout-

Did you know that Adho Mukha Svanasana is a pose of rest, harmony and balance?!?

CultFit Rest

A pose of rest, not struggle …

Hinge Walk Out Perfect Push Ups – Resting in Adho Mukha Svanasana between sets.

*This little program is something we practice weekly here, away from the inter-webz*

Notes:

We are starting to hone and redefine what it means in essence, to live fully, everyday.  To forgive, love and do no harm. Remember, CultFit is a heuristic process and not something that IS. A tad deep today, on purpose.  Be well.

CultFit Dead End

Daylight

Don’t walk behind me; I may not lead. Don’t walk in front of me; I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend-

Link of the day:  You seem pretty cool, let’s SWAP IDEAS

Change in the world is constant, just take a look a round you when you get a minute. Our bodies are constantly changing, adapting and processing new information every second of the day.  Have you noticed the new produce at Trader Joe’s or the seasonal yoga mats at Lululemon? Change, from the moment you wake up in the morning until you gently fall asleep listening to your favorite podcast. Whether we notice or not, the process of changing happens all the time. What happens though when we start to pay attention to change?

CultFit Jawa

There are many ways to start paying attention to change. We could practice by focusing our attention on  any number of things:  Leaving the TV off after work, smiling more during the day, going for a gentle walk instead of abusing your body running and our favorite(s) … Breathing and Meditation. Our breathing is never constant, no two breaths are ever the same.  Don’t believe us?!?  Try holding your breath in Downward Dag, for 30 seconds.

The Workout-

Yoga, Breathing and Kettlebells … Forget we mentioned Yoga.  The reason being, is that we have adopted the bastardized version we see vainly displayed in many studios.  Our revised list: Breathing + Kettlebells.

Let’s start with a nice flowing, gentle Walk to get into tune with our bodies before we start (breathing is paramount today).

Adho Mukha Svanasana –> Utkatasana –> Ardha Uttanasana –> 5 KB Bent Over Rows ( your palm faces the outside when picking the KB up, torso parallel to the floor, hips back, opposite hand inline with torso – parallel to floor – palm down)

Form, Flow and Grace.

Notes:

Today, let’s focus on one “thing” that is changing around us.  Just one for now.  Take care and remember to smile.

Para un Amigo

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world-

When was the last time you took time away from your life?  Do you find yourself so tired of managing “stress” that you find yourself wanting to hit the proverbial reset button?  Do certain relationships sometimes cause you such distress that you fantasize about running away from them and never coming back?

Unfortunately, no matter where we run off to … Awaiting there, with wide open arms: Stress.

CultFit Shire

All of us need regular breaks:  Time away on holiday, having lunch at a local park, reading a good book before bed.  Taking regular breaks actually enhances the development of strength in each one of us.  For the pointy heads reading, there is a term for this process: Hormesis, we can witness this principle at work in two (there are more although we have a limited attention span) important systems.  Our muscles grow and become stronger in response to stress (working out – intelligently) as long as the stress is followed by adequate REST <— Critical Word.  Another system (used loosely) is that old nugget between the ears, our brain.  What is one “thing” that stresses neurons, lobes, nerves, pons and thus ultimately leads to our increased “mental” hardiness? Thinking.

The Workout-

Crocodile Breathing + Dead Man Roll(s) = 30 Perfect Turkish Get Ups (Each arm)

Notes:

We’ll leave you with a quick thought before the weekend starts:  Our resiliency develops when we’re exposed to stress (moving heavy stuff in the gym, running into the wind and reading some work by Nero and Senaca) … Each and every day and then taking the time to REST.

We’ll leave you with THIS

Got Me Wrong

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony-

What did you love to do the most as a child?  Shove crayons up your nose?  Draw pretty pictures with said crayons?  Maybe you enjoyed playing a musical instrument or was it reenacting a great story you just finished reading?  For many of us, it was exploring the wonders of the world by simply being outside, like immersed in nature.  Poison ivy and all.  What if we shared a secret with you?  Only if you promise not to share it with anyone else … You can find greater energy and inspiration today by reconnecting with what you enjoyed the most as a child:  Sign up for an art class at a local college or community center, volunteer to give musical lessons to today’s generation.  Or, our favorite:  Leave your shoes at home and head out the door for an early morning walk before the world awakens around you.

By reconnecting with our long-lost gifts we can reclaim our “sense” < — Hint from yesterday Our true passion in life.

What are some of your gifts (seriously peeps: let ’em fly and chime in) and how do you plan on utilizing them today?
