These early morning cycling commutes have me thinking about fear, a lot …
Maybe I’m out of touch this morning, although I don’t think anyone in their right mind wishes to walk this beautiful path in life completely fearless. At least after the rush of a close encounter, we can appreciate that our internal warning “thing” is aligned with the red traffic light up ahead, preventing us from crossing the intersection and becoming tasty roadkill for the turkey vultures circling above (I miss roundabouts). Thinking about this for a moment, I don’t think I know anyone who appreciates being afraid for no good reason, or even just being anxious about future events; which just so happens to be my definition of being a “worry wort.“
Once I start worrying above and beyond what is needed for the most basic survival (food – water – family – bikes – fantasy hockey …), worry builds upon worry, and my thoughts spin out of control. The question is what to do about worrying when it makes no sense?!?
: Take a deep breath and return to the present moment :
Daily Meditation:
Our “worried” minds are accustomed to seeing only the negative in life, ignoring the awe-inspiring spectacle of beauty, love, and boundless opportunity that awaits us. Instead of “worrying” about these threats – Red Lights – Road Kill – Turkey Vultures … Maybe we can hone in on what is right in our life, the “little” things, such as the beautiful sky above, dew on a blade of grass and the Pittsburgh Penguins being eliminated from the NHL playoffs.
I’m Sorry …

My greatest regret was how much I believed in the future-
” … Of course! Your blog is just another way of saying we all want to live in a hedonic present, a present where everything is easy and we suffer no consequences for making “whatever” choices we make, the moment we make them. If only more people took notice of how unsuccessful and unhappy a life would be, from adopting a living in the present moment only approach. Are we too lost in ourselves to strike a balance!”
Balance from whose perspective? Mine, that dude over yonder, or your own …
Moving forward, one of the main undercurrents to keep in mind as you skim over these posts is: To whom do you owe your greatest allegiance? Do you owe your allegiance to your yoga studio, running club, cycling team, your family, your abusive workout regime?
Life, isn’t just a competition between our now self and our future self. We have for all intents and purposes, an infinite number of future selves, all of whom potentially have competing interests and competing desires.
Daily Meditation:
The question we face when deciding to do “whatever“: Do we abuse our bodies now or save ourselves for the future? Or rather, how much time and energy do we spend now and how much do we save for later in life? In both of these cases, the answer is – It depends … Dude.

Say anything about you. Whatsoever people say is about themselves. But you become very shaky, because you are still clinging to a false center. That false center depends on others, so you are always looking to what people are saying about you. And you are always following other people, you are always trying to satisfy them. You are always trying to be respectable, you are always trying to decorate your ego. This is suicidal. Rather than being disturbed by what others say, you should start looking inside yourself …
Whenever you are self-conscious you are simply showing that you are not conscious of the self at all. You don’t know who you are. If you had known, then there would have been no problem— then you are not seeking opinions. Then you are not worried what others say about you— it is irrelevant!
When you are self-conscious you are in trouble. When you are self-conscious you are really showing symptoms that you don’t know who you are. Your very self-consciousness indicates that you have not come home yet.

The DeLorean and Calvin Klein. I know not of what you were stricken to call Marty McFly chicken for your fates will surely entwine. Doc Brown hit his head and for his stitch and suture, made it possible to go Back to the Future. Given the chance you would, Introduce the world to Johnny B. Goode and if you think there’s another reason for this date of the year, then make like a tree and get out of here-
Quick question to start our discussion: Was Guy Fawkes merely being Reactive or Creative when he decided to hatch the Gunpowder Plot?
Chances are Mr. Fawkes knew what the right thing to do was and even wanted to do what is right … Then he walked into the houses of parliament.
Because he was afraid. Guy Fawkes lacked the courage to support his convictions in a meaningful way.
So how in the world do we draw a parallel between a terrorist and you, average trendy peep of the 21st century? Simply: We need passionate courage to face the unknown challenges that confront us. We need vast amounts of courage to let go of our irrational fears that hold us back each and every morning.
We need courage to be ourselves, to be authentic and to take responsibility for our actions. We need to be courageous in order to overcome our fears of rejection and disapproval from others. You may have never thought of this before although it takes courage to accept criticism and openly admit to mistakes.
Harvesting courage frees each and every one of us, to find new and better ways of being Authentic … You.
Most of us are held captive, prisoners of our own fears and fear of the unknown.
The Plan-
Link of the day: Time Management
The Workout-
A quick Trail Run/Hike/Swim or Walk to begin the festivities. Followed by:
Shuttle Runs-
5m Out and Back + 10 Perfect Push Ups
10m Out and Back + 10 HEAVY Goblet Squats
15m Out and Back + 10 HEAVY Hard Style KB Swings
20m Out and Back + 10 Heavy KB Snatch
Mr. Fawkes would have done this for 30 minutes, or 3-4 times through.
Notes:
Remember this day as the day you kicked fear in the FACE! Guy Fawkes was found guarding some barrels of gun powder around midnight on 4 November 1605, barrels full of fear. Take care today and ENJOY!!!
