At the beginning of yesterdays post I conveniently dropped in your lap a rather unfamiliar word: Eudaimonia. Depending on who you ask and what phase the moon currently resides in, Eudaimonia is most often translated as happiness or genuine happiness. For our conversation here, let’s adopt the more precise translation: Human flourishing, the path to reaching a perfect life (nirvana, moksha).
Keeping in the spirit of this blog-o-thing, I will try to keep this pithy and digestible. If we were to talk about happiness, normally, we toss out phrases like: “happiness as a state of mind“, “contentment“, “joy“, “pleasure“, “love“… All of these terms are caused by external factors. We obsess over money, how highly book “educated” we are, the $2500 newest and greatest carbon fiber road bikes, we even think the lousy weather outside has a great influence on the happiness we experience, day in and day out, while in all actuality, they have little if nothing to do with happiness at all.
The problem Dear Reader with these hedonistic, deleterious perspectives we have conveniently adopted?!? The exact moment the stimulus is taken swiftly away, the “happiness” they brought, albeit briefly, will disappear in a flash.
Notes:
Authentic spirituality makes us torchbearers of an inner light, your inner light! Alive in humility, courage, action, joy and love, we grow in self-awareness when external factors are removed. Only then are we open to experience the fulfillment of life and our true purpose.
Just don’t take my bike, please … I beg of you. Happiness would evade me if you did …

Are you fully open to experiencing this beautiful life without censorship or bias? Living fully in the current moment, where our physical actions feel fluid, rhythmic; rather than static, tired and wasted. Do you trust your inner experience to guide you throughout the day? Empowered to interact with nature rather than automatically reacting to events as they unfold in front of you. Is taking a creative approach to living authentically a foreign idea to you, lost years ago when we surrendered to technology, relying on routine and habit to fill every crevice of our lives.

Welcome to a new a chapter of authenticity here at CultFit, exploring long-lost traits of true happiness, bliss. As always please feel to join the conversation and help shape where this tangled mess is heading …

In our society we have many dysfunctional examples of how to “treat” ourselves: Unbelievably tasty and rich foods, ridiculously expensive clothes, exotic marathon vacations and 4 hour-long power yoga sessions … We’re consistently told, at every turn, that more is better.
Learning to take deep care of yourself, thinking meaningfully about the “things” in your life that nurture your body and spirit. Moving confidently into the future, instead of focusing on what feels good in the moment. This is a true treat to enjoy: Yourself.
Notes:
Who would you be if you “treated” yourself a little bit more?

Remember those New Year’s resolutions you made under the best intentions to run a marathon this summer, loose a couple extra pounds, become less attached to technology, whatever?!?
I can’t remember them either, so we’re cool
Before we get too far along, start traveling sideways and I start doling out advice about “life“. The tone of this post is to bring to light an idea(s) to help you celebrate yourself this summer and the remainder of the year. Far too often we celebrate finishing a big race, blossoming on the mat, that we often overlook who got us there in the first place …
Take a moment this weekend to sit down, with an actual pen, a few pages of organic-renewable-locally sourced paper, a pint of Wynkoop Rocky Mountaion Oyster Stout, to write yourself a letter. Dated one year in advance for good measure. I can personally say that this exercise is best done after a recent success or “pat on the back” moment in your life. Imagine looking back a year from now, from a place of having achieved your most important goal this year. Don’t hold back while you pen your letter either. Thank your present self, give some tips, share a few failures and what you did right when things got tough. Savor this moment …
Notes:
My resolution this year was not to write any self-serving advice posts … Take care and be well today!

I’m tired, weary and bored. The quintessential trifecta of re-injuring oneself, or others.
Boredom typically arises from one’s own lack of motivation, conviction and creativity. Each one of us gets bored now and then, for all I know you are already bored with this tedious post? However, the difference between being perpetually bored and seeking “healthy” alternatives is vast. You can become bored with running, cycling and yoga. Showing up and going through the motions, ignoring your body and true spirit. This is the kind of boredom that takes us down a destructive path …
How can anyone be bored in today’s world? Computer do-dad’s, IThingy’s, you name it! There’s even an app for being bored! It seems that one has to look rather hard, actually seek boredom to become bored. Once we are bored, it takes some perseverance to shake off. We can form a habit out of being bored because it presents a degree of comfort and safety. This is the point in the post where I tell you that you can become bored while running or doing yoga in the morning: Comfort and Safety.
Maybe today on the mat we can start in corpse pose? Shake things up a little bit …
Notes:
Today is a brilliant day to get creative, who knows what might happen, especially if we keep an open mind?!?
