A little challenge to start the weekend off right: Limber your lips up, and hum your favorite song for the next 30 seconds … Now don’t you feel better? In fact, there’s no better way to calm your mind and boost your spirits than by humming a happy tune.
Are your lips, heart and spirit ready to go? Cool …
Pausing for a moment to consider how humming plays a role in meditation practice … I’ll share just one quick example: “Some” yoga folks use a breathing technique called brahmari or “the bee breath.” In essence, the brahmari technique involves taking a series of slow, deep breaths through the nose with tightly sealed lips. On each exhalation, you make a humming sound similar to a bee buzzing about in a midlands prairie.
Daily Meditation:
For whatever reason, I deeply enjoy humming the occasional tune. Humming (the brahmari technique) is a gentle, calming method to settle our mind(s) and an a soothing way to relieve stress. Little did I know that a seemingly frivolous, cheeky activity may turn out to have some tangible daily benefits. In addition, who would had ever thought that Hall & Oates would help me center my mind?!?
Take care this weekend and please be well!
Estoy viendo los perros en Dubuque! (Dock Dog World Championships).
Que tenga un dia feliz!
How cool! I hope you guys are having a blast and taking quite a few pictures of the exciting action. Feel like sharing them when you get back? Until then, take care!
Wow, what fun that was! And the dogs I stayed with for two nights? One is now 2nd in the world in big air (legend class) and the other is the world champion elite big air (distance jump)!!! Woooooo!!!!!!
<3!!! Have a great week end.
I hope you do the very same! How is the book working out for you? 😉
Buenisimo thank you. I did however buy the paperback because I still scribble on margins. Screens are great but I miss the pen/pencil movement sometimes.
Hall & Oates is my secret guilty pleasure 😉
You and I both 🙂
I hope you have a beautiful weekend, take care!
I like to whistle when I’m having a tough go in the pace line. May seem crazy but whistling at 25 mph makes things better. I figure if I can whistle at 25, just riding would be even easier. Pulls me through every time… Though a few of the guys think I’m weird.
Have a great weekend brother. I start celebrating 21 years tomorrow, in earnest. Big dinner, lots of friends, etc. it’s all good!
I can’t begin to put the words, a thought together to tell you how proud I am of you! 21 years is no drop in the bucket mate – Awesome!!! Celebrate, eat up and most importantly … Have fun!
Thanks man, it’s going to be a great few days.
When I was a kid, I always had songs playing in my head, and I often created new songs. Even as an adult, I have had dreams of entire concerts..orchestras, bands, dancers, the music (not ones I had seen). As a child growing up with severe asthma and revved up on asthma meds, and being hyper naturally, and musical, I would often be humming and it drove my Mom crazy. Later on, I found out, like you, that it is a healthy way to destress. I used to sit on my bed and rock from side to side, only finding out later that the rocking, was again a way to stimulate the brain to balance it and relax. I believe we are innately led to these activities if we follow our guidance and don’t give in to those who would intimidate us into not doing so. Great article!
Its a beautiful process, re-discovering our true selves 🙂
I would like to take a moment to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued support, kind words and the energy you leave every time you visit. Truly my friend … Its too early on a beautiful Saturday morning to be getting all teary eyed …Thank you!!!
Thank you so much, glad I touched you as you touch me. My life has been quite intense lately so I haven’t kept up on writing my blogs, but have re-blogged some other’s posts and kept inspired by your posts. I admire how regular you are with your writing and how much depth you write and live from on a continuous basis. And you seem to inspire others to comment, too. i haven’t managed that yet on my blogs, but it is my intention as I hope to inspire others and invite sharing:)
When I was younger, my heart and soul were so full, that I hummed throughout the day. After my late husband died, my humming stopped. I need to work at getting it back again.
