There is a charm about the forbidden that makes it unspeakably desirable-
You feel your willpower diminishing as the morning grinds on. Suddenly, watching TV this evening and finishing a dozen cronuts sounds like the perfect plan to wrapping up this dreadful day. To hell with running and “working out” after work!
You may want to write this down or bookmark it even – Chances are you may not read anything quite like it here again … Anything that reduces stress, boosts your mood, or recharges your spirit can also restore your sense of self-control. Conveniently listed below are a couple of my go to strategies, although they may look like temptations and distractions, I like to think of them as “strategic indulgences“.
Cronuts, go ahead and try to resist these flaky morsels that have descended upon us from heaven! That “thing” between our ears uses more energy for willpower than practically anything else. A small tasty bite can nudge our brain back into self-control mode. Fine, make it a few bites!
Our willpower is often at its peak in the morning, after a good nights rest. When we become tired, it often becomes much harder to control our impulses. Sneaking in a short nap in the afternoon helps to not only reduce stress, a short nap also improves our mood, and restores focus. Pretty cool!
Your body, mind and spirit need a break from time to time – I also know that restoring our willpower is unique to each one of you reading today. Exploring new ways to restoring your willpower is time well spent … Are you going to finish that last cronut?!?
I have to admit my will power usually does go to sleep before I do. 🙂
Ha, same here! I often overlook willpower and take it for granted at times. With the changes in the seasons approaching, getting a walk or bike ride in means getting up a touch sooner and skipping some treats here and there. I hope you had a great weekend, take care today!

Can’t say that I have ever tried them, how good are they? The topic of this post sprung from a conversation I had with a friend last week who was sore after blasting their back and abs in the gym. They skipped yoga and running the night before … I asked them when was the last time they ever worked on their “willpower?” 😉 Sometimes having just a few chips, sharing a treat with a friend and not over doing it in the gym is better than over indulging ourselves.
Oh… I over-indulge, believe me! The spurts come and go but when I encounter it, I feel like I’m sinning! Last time was this choc bar that a co-worker was selling for fund raising at her kid’s school. Man, are they ever sooo yummy! I gorge! Literally. Wednesday through Friday. By that weekend, I was sick. The bathroom became my sanctuary.
The Lays chips have 4 new flavours. They want us to try them out and vote. I’m a sucker for anything garlicky. And ka-boom! I’m done for. *hangs head in shame* =/
I sooo know what your friend went through. Ever notice how the gyms and studios seem packed Mondays and Tuesdays? All guilty from whatever they did that weekend. 😉
Mmmm. Popcorn in the evening. Thanks for helping me two nights ago during the awesome harvest moon. Long run this weekend, and hopefully a longish bike ride (for someone just coming back)–writes the woman who just ate a half of a chocolate muffin 🙂
