Whatever you may be sure of, be sure of this, that you are dreadfully like other people-

Movement around the joints, not through them…We had originally planned to go over this last week to tie the concept of breathing-body awareness into a nice digestible bit of information for you.  We didn’t, no big deal as this week will give us the chance to touch on a few things we neglect every day.  Before we get too far ahead of ourselves some required reading is in order: Philosophie Naturalis Principia Mathematica by Sir Isaac Newton(Apologies for the link to Wiki-I-Have a Short Attention Span…)

Like it or not there are some laws that govern the way we move.  Some fitness peeps out there fail to grasp this concept and it should also not be taken for granted that we are all different!  Unless you have a twin or something, maybe a clone?  None of you reading today are the same, move the same, or have the same history-genetic disposition.  We all move and live differently…Got it?!?  Let’s move on then…

Quick question?  If we are all not the same, why do we do programs that lump us into one category?  Uncle Sebastian’s front squat is dynamically different from Sister Susan’s for many different reasons.  Yet, we still roll out of bed in the morning and pull a one size fits all program from the webz and kill ourselves for time doing it.  Keep in mind that there may be a deeper message here as we purposely skim the surface of movement…

If you truly want to see our discussion in action stand up right now at your desk (put down the chai tea latte first) and stand on one leg.  Don’t think about it, just do it!  What happened?  Notice anything?  If you cannot answer this simple question you are out of tune with our body.  Try it again later in the day on the opposite foot, close your eyes and see how you get on with it?

Clear your mind of all that is bogging you down right now.  Its time for a game of CultFit Word Association (*cheers and fanfare erupt from the peanut gallery*)!!!  The rules are simple:  Look at the pic and say out loud the first WORD that comes to mind not your first thought!  Slower peeps read the directions again…Ready?!?  Here we go:

Warm Up into a lather…A sweaty not out of breath sort of warm up and proceed with the following:

5 Minutes of Tumbling (forward rolls, backwards etc)

5 Minutes of Hollow Rocks (find your balance in this position)

5 Minutes in a Hand Stand Hold (not all at the same time peeps)

5 Minutes of One Leg Standing Balance (duh, 2 1/2 minutes each leg preferably with your eyes CLOSED!!!)

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Heavy One Arm Perfect Presses (one-legged maybe?!?)


Tune out the world and pay attention to how you move this week, ENJOY!!!

    i enjoy the genuine differences between people, not desperate attempts to be different solely for the sake of being different. commonalities aren’t always bad.

      The hippie porn thing is crazy! Placed it as a goof-ball tag awhile back and ever since 20-30 weirdos click on over here through it daily.
      *Hint* The word association thing has no right answer, just the three wrong ones…
      Not so much an optimist or simple minded. In essence: different. We all are fundamentally different. Its not a bad thing just something to take into consideration when doing a cookie cutter workout program or watching a fitness video at home.

      Two guys here both 30 ish – 6ft – 180 lbs or so…One has had two fractured vertebra in his neck, lumbar disk replacement and a recent knee micro fracture surgery. From an outward appearance both look healthy and fit although both are mechanically polar opposites and need to take that into considerations when working out.

        i meant simple minded because i have a feeling that if this test was answered by a lot of folks, “up” would actually be a pretty common answer. i know that tests like this have no correct answer. much like a Rorschach (ink blot) test, the answer, while not assessed for correctness, can be so revealing!
