You’re the Light

One man practicing kindness in the wilderness is worth all the temples this world pulls-

Today, right now in this amazing moment, I feel that we have a greater need for serenity than during any other moment in our lives. Mind blowing technology and endless possibilities are literally at our fingers tips, affording each one of us the potential to become “somebody Whatever this may mean.

In essence, we constantly strive to be a perfect “somebody” The perfect friend on FaceTube – always the first to comment and liking your awesome status. The perfect running or workout buddy – consistently settling for just enough and not easing into the growth that discomfort can bring us, but yet we choose to go past discomfort into pain. How do you go about sharing with a friend during a spirited training ride: Chill. Ease your eyes from the road beneath you and smell the fresh spring air

The question I present to you this morning is this – Can the pursuit of trying to be somebody, be brought into alignment with trying to be present minded?

Daily Meditation:

Many of us are myopically trying to become somebody, robbing ourselves of inner peace and present-mindedness. Sometimes, stopping midway through a run, a yoga class – turning the radio off as you start the commute home – Is all you need to become “somebody“.

Vengeance by Proxy

A modern definition of equanimity: cool. This refers to one whose mind remains stable & calm in all situations-

Raise your hand if you have ever talked to yourself, or better yet, talked to yourself in the third person during a difficult or trying time in your life. Don’t be shy now – I have two hands waving in the air if that matters?!?

Breathing, positive self talk, calmness, evenness of mind – Chill. The gentle sway of a budding birch tree, daffodils and crocuses awaking underfoot, sharing a smile with a complete stranger as you spin or run on by All the while talking to yourself, coaching yourself, through a difficult set of experiences.

When talking to myself in the third person I normally recite something like this: “Dude, keep cool, this equanimity stuff? Is pretty damn important! Chill Breathe Relax the back of your throat Eyes forward, Heart Open! Take another deep breath Breathe Equanimity is key  Zip it up – You got this!.”

Daily Meditation:

Here I am, some random dude on the inter-webz, openly telling you that I talk to myself – all of the damn time! And who cares if you do the very same! When we are unable to walk – spin – run calmly away from a “situation“? Remember: This equanimity stuff? Is pretty damn important!

Please don’t preach at me—I feel bad enough already-

As anyone who strives to share wisdom and knowledge with others—how often do we command others without first ensuring our own understanding, without first eradicating our own insecurities and tension(s)?

How many of us can honestly answer yes to the following question: Have I done the work that I’m asking this person to do?  And more importantly: Am I myself, able to go where they want to go?

No one is perfect, and in fact, our limitations often open the door to understanding and compassion, as well as to the ability to overcome the very faulty practices and beliefs that we are currently dealing with. Although in order to share the wisdom of these past lessons, we have to actually learn these lessons. We have to transcended the obstacles, not merely recognize that they exist.

Daily Meditation:

We can’t rest on our laurels of intention, we must be willing, and able, to be the example

Am (I)

Nothing of me is original. I am the combined effort of everyone I’ve ever known-

Who are you?

A simple question, asked so very often, implying that there is actually a plausible answer. Almost as if our being were a fixed “thing

Who am I?

The irony that lies neatly at the heart of this question, is that the more we seek to identify who we are, the more fragile we are likely to become. The emphasis shouldn’t be on discovering who we are but on creating what we would like to experience in life.

Who defines you?

Our identity should be seen as an evolving process, rather than a static snapshot in time. Embrace a flowing sense of self – You.

Daily Meditation:

How different would life be, if rather than asking who am I We contemplated how we’d like to engage and live – Life?

La Verdad

The reason I talk to myself is because I’m the only one whose answers I accept-

These truths are a compass leading us along the path of our lives: When we open our eyes, listen to our hearts and scream our truth(s) out loud for all to hear and witness? We find Balance and Center.

Once we find our true path and own it, the key words being Own It – Own your Path. Only then can we set about creating a definitive experience of our sense of place, our sense of identity and our sense of purpose in this beautiful world.

Through seeking purpose, we find identity. With identity, we find our true purpose.

Daily Meditation:

The alternate approach to Owning Your Path … Is waiting. Waiting will only engender suffering, the suffering of longing to be “better” and grasping at a You, that simply does not exist.
