The Sun is Shining Down

A heart that loves is always young-

How many of us have discovered the connection between Exercise, Clear State of Mind and Self-Preservation?

Now here’s the deal, It has to be all three examples above: Exercise, Clear State of Mind and Self-Preservation.

Do you feel sore and abused from running this weekend?  Can you focus your thoughts on something other than blogging and Pinterest?  Are you shaking off a hangover this morning from a weekend Drink Fest/Oktoberfest?

*Vaguely Speaking …

The first 20+ odd years or so of our lives were fueled, consumed by vanity.  We did not care about our stinking health;  We simply wanted to look as lean, muscular, and strong as possible.  We lifted many weights, ran countless marathons, rode our bikes around the world and back and did thousands of push-ups and sit-ups seven days a week.  We consumed mounds of protein, took every performance enhancing pill we could wash back.  Basically we abused our bodies for 20+ years  in a failed effort to look the way we thought we  needed to look in order to gain approval and acceptance from our peers …

The Workout-

A quick dynamic Warm Up of your choosing.  Followed by:

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Heavy Bulgarian Split Squats (Each Leg)

10-9-8-7-6-5-4-3-2-1 Heavy Goblet Squats

Finish up with a spirited bike ride!

**The trick to the program today is to find a weight heavy enough to push you at 3-2-1 … **

A couple of much deserved shout outs are in order!  Anne … Great job finishing 2nd yesterday in the 60+ female division while running in the Omaha Half Marathon.  68 years young with an impressive 2:09:00 run time, brilliant!

Maybe It’s His Fault

Hard work, passion, drive.  Showing up every day even when you don’t
feel like showing up.  Because I know, from experience, that when I
don’t feel like peeling myself off the couch, it’s the best time to do
it.  I always, and I mean always, feel better after that workout.
It’s usually one of my more memorable workouts, too.

Living out here in the country gets a little lonely.  Between work,
family and commitments, there’s not a lot of time for friends.  And
because I’m a healthcare provider in a small town, I can’t readily
make friends.  Patients make poor friends and vice versa.  It’s hard
to convince folks to drive for 45 minutes to the country for some type
of combative training.  And most of the time, I’m teaching them some
patty-cake drill, not making myself any better or challenging me.

But I refuse to let my skills deteriorate.  My mind is a powerful
thing and I find myself fighting in my mind – Kung-Fu style.  I battle
the pavement.  I battle the heavy bag.  I battle the keyboard as I
type this.  I battle the voices in my head that still think they have
something to say.

Maybe it’s all Michael Jordan’s fault.  Or maybe I’m just making excuses.

You cannot depend on your eyes when your imagination is out of focus-

Beware the story of the “Easy” explanation…Far too often we are hyper obsessed with finding the proper motivation to start a new workout program that we forget the “Easy” part to it:  Following through.

Motivation is in the mind; follow-through is in the practice.

The Workout-

Bike/Swim for about an hour (you have been quietly turning up the intensity we hope?) Followed by:

100 One Arm Perfect Presses (each arm always starting the movement with a Hammer Curl-Rack Hold-Press)

Notes:

This is more of a Core-Spine workout than you would initially think…The moment you grab the floor with your toes that energy you now have is transferred to every part of your body.  Just as a tree has roots to fuel and nurture its growth; so do you, ENJOY!!!
