He picked up a pebble
and threw it into the sea.
And another, and another.
He couldn’t stop.
He wasn’t trying to fill the sea.
He wasn’t trying to empty the beach.
He was just throwing away,
nothing else but.
Like a kitten playing
he was practising for the future
when there’ll be so many things
he’ll want to throw away
if only his fingers will unclench
and let them go.
Something I am working in now. Letting go of things.
I really never realized how much things became a part of my life. I am now retired and downsizing – my house is for sale. I miss the clutter of my daily life living in a “ready to show” house wiped clean of personality and “stuff.” I’ve been so depressed, but I know this is right – letting things go – I’ll make sure they go to people who need them – that makes me feel better. Loved yourcpoem.
Hang in there. :-). I look forward to downsizing in some ways. May start early so it doesn’t hurt so much when I have to do it!
Thank you so much for stopping over and sharing such a powerful moment in your life. I have written in the past about presenting our true selves and what you illustrated while selling your home, I feel is much the same – Our homes are not “perfect” and neither are we. I had to step over a handful of messes before I could make to the garage this morning, and you know what? Something would not be right if I didn’t 🙂
May your heart and spirit be filled with happiness this morning, take care and be well!
Its well worth the time and work you are putting in. 🙂
🙂
your poem…
That is certainly a life-long lessons. Once we learn it there will be so much weight off our shoulders.
I could not agree more!
Ah, letting go…a lifelong lesson…letting go our children, people we love…a beautiful poem and a poet I didn’t know- American? thank you.
Thank you for following my little blog and best wishes to you for yours 🙂
Thank you so much! I hope you are having a great weekend, take care and be well 🙂
