Talking in Bed

Talking in bed ought to be easiest,
Lying together there goes back so far,
An emblem of two people being honest.

Yet more and more time passes silently.
Outside, the wind’s incomplete unrest
Builds and disperses clouds about the sky,

And dark towns heap up on the horizon.
None of this cares for us. Nothing shows why
At this unique distance from isolation

It becomes still more difficult to find
Words at once true and kind,
Or not untrue and not unkind.

  1. Are we exiles in our own relationships? What do you do when there is nothing to talk about except the cat and the kids?
The photo is so appropriate – does this mean we are at the end of the line?

My apologies for the late response mate, I’m still catching up at work after an extended weekend … At the end of line? I certainly hope not, and as you know, the illusion of parallel tracks eventually sort themselves out – when viewed from a different perspective šŸ˜‰
I hope you and your family are doing well, take it easy!

  2. Having very recently gotten divorced, this piece really hits home.
