‘Merican linguist Benjamin Lee Whorf was spot on when he stated: “Language itself shapes a man’s basic ideas.”
Language transforms our daily experiences and firmly connects us to the past as well as to our future. Language sparks our imagination, connects us to one another. Take the time with us this week to be mindful of how important language is to our perception of reality.

Sé bien hoy y … Disfrutar!!!
this is a topic I am constantly mulling over… language and the use of it is so important to convey ideas, and communicate information, worth a bit of reflection! 🙂 great post (although I can only guess what it says without resorting to Google translate) hope you had a great weekend!
The weekend went by way too fast as normal. 🙂 Using language while working out is pretty fascinating once we get into the technical details, it’s boring and dull so I’ll skip it altogether here. Counting reps in Spanish for instance triggers chemical reactions in our brains which have many subtle benefits to us. If you like I can can send you some studies about this topic to look over?!? If anything they will help you get to sleep at night. 😉
My friend and mentor, His Dark Side, recommends that I count backwards from 300 when learning a new skill to occupy my thinking brain (and therefore get it out of the way). I would think that counting reps in another language would help in this regard as well and trigger the subconscious to preform the activity.
Exactly!
yes please, always interested in this kinda stuff! thank you so much 🙂
I love the way you use language.
Hope your holiday was terrific!
We had a great time and I hope you did as well. I completely agree with you in regards to Black Friday …
Our country is run by the media and PR and marketing execs.
I had a spirited conversation with a friend last week that you would have thought was interesting. Said friend bought a new iPhone 5 and was smarting about it over dinner. Normally I back away from these talks and mention that the new phone is nice … This time I wanted her to tell me specifically why this new phone was better than the $$$ iPhone she had before. The one that still worked fine and suited it’s purpose for her: Pinterest and Instagram. Basically she ended up admitting she just had to have a new one because everybody else had one. To each their own I guess?!? I talk a lot about stress in our lives and like it or not and more specifically- What you stated above: We don’t have control over our lives anymore.
We still have control. But we have to want to control ourselves from wanting “what everyone” else has. To not buy into the hype. Though it seems we like to buy into the hype of having the latest, greatest, bestest _______ in the world…until the next one comes along.
No puedo esperar! Voy a correr!!!
¡Increíble!
