Here’s That Rainy Day

The ego relies on the familiar. It is reluctant to experience the unknown, which is they very essence of life-

We cultivate a sense of identity from what we do, and when a habit bolsters a positive sense of identity, it’s immensely powerful. Over time, the pure joy of this “habit” fades away into the ether, and what are left with? Race bibs. medals, memories and for me personally – Nothing. This past weekend after much thought, I have arrived at a point in my life where I need to stop pursuing fleeting dreams, choosing instead to do something meaningful with my free time – other than racing and competing. Its time to focus on other areas in my life

Daily Meditation:

Over the course of the next six weeks I will be attending the Citizens’ Academy for Omaha’s Future and I would genuinely love to have you along for the ride! In essence, I’m trading race bibs and medals to hang in the garage, for the chance to create meaningful change in our community.

Thank you once again for your continued support as I walk a path to discovering my true self.

A habit of negative mind talk can become who you are–a false self. Best wishes on your new endeavor.

This is going to seem pretty awkward and silly from some random inter-webs, blogger dude from Nebraska to say: I fail at times to accurately put into words how much you, your kindness and support – truly mean to me 🙂

Great point for us all–to stop and reevaluate are goals and priorities. Best of luck. It sounds like a very worthy endeavor. Eager to hear about it.

I’m a fairly even keeled dude, for the most part … Yet, this program truly speaks to my heart and soul. I hope you a have a wonderful weekend in store, take care and be well 🙂

Tough choice but it sounds like a correct one. I was a competitive cyclist for years in my early teens and had to give up the sport for college. It’s okay to still enjoy your bike. Your photo was totally my adolescent bedroom! I can still smell the WD-40, rubber cement, and bullshot grease from living with my beloved Guerciotti!

I would be lying if I told you I was going cold-turkey and stepping away from MTB racing or racing completely. I suppose we could say this is more of a shuffling of priorities in this “thing” called life.
A long, long time ago I wrote a few posts talking about the visceral aspects of life we often tune out. The smell of a dirty shop rag, the feel of a cool breeze invigorating our spirit mid ride … We tune so much out in life and your kind thoughts about bullshot grease brought me back to a wonderful time in my life – Thank you!
*Bullshot was a BMX racers staple back in day 😉

that is so cool, i am going to start something like that, with the t-shirt bib and medal (if I get one) for each race

What a wonderful new endeavor! I’m really curious to hear how those six weeks go 🙂 I want to make a quilt out of my race shirts.

I see it’s already begun (as I read the comments). I look forward to hearing more about it. . . last year I went to Mayor Beutler’s community conversation (a kind of conference) about budget and the future of the city. He really has vision. I cannot believe the local news (today) has not reported about the election. Sad.
