The world isn’t fair, Calvin.”
“I know Dad, but why isn’t it ever unfair in my favor?

I want to go back and touch on “should” thoughts for a moment before we move onto today’s post. Contemplative thought is truly a brilliant tool to exploring your true potential, just not when its time to perform. I like to call these – trigger happy thoughts or reactive thoughts. Let’s dive a little deeper and to maintain some clarity, I’m relating the post today to competitive outings and more specifically: Running.

What are your initial thoughts and feelings when I tell you that “Fairness” – Is a fallacy? Fairness is rubbish and compete utter nonsense?

Many of us (maybe this hits close to home for you)  Cloak ourselves with the falsehood that there exists only a single standard of fairness and – SPOILER ALERT! – It’s our very own! What we consciously choose to ignore, and this is when we start our “should” thinking, is that fairness is a completely subjective concept, based on our individual needs, expectations, and values. The big boy truth, is that your definition of what’s fair? Is completely self-serving (mine included).

If your buttons have been pushed in the past, or even right now because you thought you were being treated unjustly? Let me share a classic example most runners have lamented about: “I should not be in the 30-39 year old age bracket! It’s too competitive! If only the race organizers would change the ages – my time in a different bracket would get me on the podium!”

Daily Meditation:

The next time you find yourself questioning fairness, your mind clouded with “should” thoughts? Try this on for size at the starting line – What I see as fair? Is a direct reflection of my own deeply held personal preferences. Then proceed to run the race of your life!

I like giving gifts, but I like not spending money more

It seems lately that I have been tuning into my deeply held beliefs, more so than I normally do: Compassion, Kindness and most importantly – Temperance or lack there of at times.

These thoughtful moments of self-reflection seem right to me, they seem to help with finding my center once again

I would like to point something out though – Merely studying our virtues is not enough to become virtuous We could apply this same thought process to many aspects of our lives, couldn’t we?!?!

However, our minds and our lives tend to take the shape of what we think about throughout the day. What society and social media deem acceptable, what we are force feed to believe. Which when I pause to think about this, its pretty sad.

Daily Meditation:

We live in a society where virtue, intention and other “not cool to talk about” topics deserve more attention in our everyday lives than we tend to give them. Anyways

Long time readers may remember my dear friend Anne. Well, after a year’s worth of training with some dude in Nebraska (which is scary enough already) … Anne is back in Boston to finish what she started last year! If your guys wish to follow Anne this coming Patriots Day? Just follow the link below!

Paper-White Narcissus

Strange, how they got their name
a boy, barely a man,
looked into sunlit water
and saw himself so beautiful
he spent his life pursuing
that treacherous reflection.
There is no greater loneliness.

Here they are, risen
from the darkness of the pebbled pool
we have made for them in a dish
risen and broken through
the long, green capsules
to show us their faces:

they are so delicate they invite
protection or violation,
and they are blind.

: Sa :

A storyteller makes up things to help other people; a liar makes up things to help himself

I have wondered about “something” for some time now. That our intention(s) and the effect of our action(s), don’t necessarily line up. In the coming posts, and with your thoughtful help and support along the way. I would like to set out exploring this gap in a variety of different contexts and disciplines – Internal, External and Relational.

I hope to awaken greater personal liberation for many of you reading this morning.

 …

Daily Meditation:

What is clear to me this morning,  is that shifting our focus from the effect of our actions to their intention? Is a good place to start

Concept : 10 :

Resolve to be tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving and tolerant with the weak and wrong. Sometime in your life, you will have been all of these-

I would like to wrap the week up by not talking about “No But rather two extremely powerful words, two words that transcend our overuse of “no.”

I Understand

Showing empathy does not drain or deplete our true spirit, our friends. Nor does empathy weaken the strongest of family ties. Empathy empowers us with a special sense of togetherness, a powerful sense of being connected. Empathy, the ability to powerfully understand another person, is invaluable, in every relationship of our lives.

Daily Meditation:

It feels good, doesn’t it? Satisfying and empowering, being on the receiving end of empathy. As parents, friends, yoga instructor(s), pilates even. A training partner at 5am on a rainy Saturday morning Take a moment to pause and reflect on the people you have worked the hardest for in your life. The people who connect and powerfully understand – You.

I feel motivated, when I feel understood. How about you?!?
